"For her the ocean was more than a dream, it was a place she needed to visit to find herself. And when she returned to the city, you could see the sun in her eyes, the wind in her hair, and taste the infinite salt on her lips" Joses Chaves
I love the beach. I have always loved the beach. Ever since I was a little kid, going would bring so much joy and bring so much peace. I never really liked going on in the waves and swim, but I loved sitting and watching the waves, watching the surfers. Or just walking along the beach, barefoot, letting the water come up to my toes.
Whenever I get to the OC, I always have to make at least one trip (this time I went twice) to the San Clemente Pier. The main reason, my cousin leaves just a few minutes away, and it's seriously the coolest pier!!
Jen---I love your smile and your laugh!! Thank you cousin for everything!! I love spending time with you, even if it was just for the weekend. I need to come back soon, I already miss you and my pier.
The ocean is everything I want to be. Beautiful, mysterious, wild and free.
I was able to visit the streets and beach of Venice this trip. I haven't been to this beach since I was a kid.
We walked along the beach, away from the boardwalk, towards the pier. After, we decided, let's go walk down the boardwalk and see how it's changed.
This is how I looked when walking down the boardwalk. It has really changed so much. Though I was a kid when I was here last, my Mom shared how much it had changed over the years. It's really not the same anymore. It was still cool to experience though.
I love this session I had with Deonte, and the time we could spend together!!! I always try to see him and his family when I'm back home, and this one is serious model material!!!
I love seeing his character and personality come to life in these photos!!! He remembered our last photo shoot together, a couple years back. So needless to say, he had a blast!!
He seriously has THE best hair!!! The night before I helped him take out his cornrows, since my idea was to have his hair exactly as you see it in these photos!!!
I grew up with his Mom, Sarah, so I have known Deonte and his siblings pretty much for forever!! We always have so much fun when I'm in town!
Deonte, thanks for keeping it real!! Until next time!!
I spent some time over the weekend up on my friends mountain. I usually always see them whenever I'm in California, but I don't always get up to their place. This time, I wanted to make sure that I went up to the mountain!!
These two cousins are best friends!! If you find one you, you will always find the other one close by. I had this photo session in my before coming, and was glad to have the chance to accomplish it.
The boys, along with some other cousins, built this really cool hidden fort. It was made out of mostly dead manzanita trees.
Theron's reaction to this photo: "This. Is. Awesome. He loved it!!
My family and I have known them for over 20 years now, maybe close to 25. We cherish our time together since we don't get out here too often, but always make sure we spend some time hanging out and catching up on life!
Thank you guys for letting me hang out with you over the weekend! Thanks for all the fun together and hope to still see you this week!! Love you guys!
My Mom and I got to hang out with our dear friend and her family, a couple of times, while in California. The first day we met up, we decided to go to the Elfin Forest in Los Osos, and than over to Morro Bay.
I hadn't been to the Elfin Forest since I was a kid. I would walk through this area when I was kid. The Elfin Forest is pretty cool! It's around 90 acres of beautiful vegetation. Most California Live Oaks grow to be over 50 feet tall, but in the Elfin Forest, they are stunted due to the local environment.
In the Elfin Forest, the oaks can be from 4ft to 20ft tall. We hound a spot to hang out and have a little picnic, underneath some of the stunted oaks.
My Lego building buddy Theron!!
After exploring the Elfin Forest, we ventured over to Morro Bay, near the rock to check out the otters. The little ones also played in the cold ocean water!
Their awesome home! Shot on iPhone 6.
One of the days we were together, we went up to their place, up on a mountain. They seriously have an amazing view, especially at sunset!

Thank you so much Kaleen for taking us around, for letting us spend time with you and your family!! I had so much fun and can't wait to hang out again! Love you guys!
I had this idea for a photo session for a while. Once I knew I was going to California, and I knew I would be making multiple trips to the beach, I thought I would take advantage of this time. I was happy with the photos I got from this session with Deonte.
He's the son of my good friend, and he's a natural in front of the camera. I love taking photos of this little guy. I love seeing his awesome personality!
We went to Avila Beach one afternoon. I hadn't been there in years. I remember I used to go there often in the summer, when I was a kid. We would go over to one side, where the water was calm. We would bring our picnic and get some sun, play in the water, do a little exploring.
For these photos, we went to one side of the beach that had a bunch of rocks near the shore. It was a perfect spot for what I had in mind.
Of all the photos, I think this is one of my favorite. It's darker than the others, but I love the tones in this, and how he's gazing out at the sea.
